Globalimar introduces skin pack technology for its packaging

As part of its drive towards innovation, Globalimar has introduced skin pack technology in the packaging of some twenty products, namely those marketed under the Aligator brand name. With a total investment of half a million Euro, it acquired a new machine from Italy that packages frozen fish and shellfish with a thin transparent film, which improves visibility and conservation.

Despite being a packaging system frequently used for other types of products, skin pack technology is hardly used for frozen fish, where there is still widespread use of plastic packaging. The new system means that the product is plainly visible, the shape and freshness of each piece of frozen fish or shellfish can be seen and, because it is vacuum packed, the product retains both its natural and organoleptic properties.

The sale of Aligator products in skin pack packaging, such as inkfish, squid, peeled prawns or scallops, started this week in the retail distribution channel, and can now be found in the food departments of chains such as El Corte Inglés, Alcampo, Carrefour and Condis, among others.
