Globalimar obtains MSC/ASC international certification


Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the frozen seafood products company (2008-2018), Globalimar has just obtained the international MSC/ASC certification, which verifies that the products they market come from sustainable fishing. The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is in charge of auditing the fish handling process to guarantee traceability, whether the fish come from the sea or a fish farm, as well as good practices throughout the preservation chain. With this certification, the company from Llagostera joins a select group of less than 100 Spanish companies in the frozen seafood products sector with this distinction.

From now on, Globalimar may label their products with the blue and green MSC and ASC seals of approval for consumers to see that their fish and seafood imports have been netted using environmentally sustainable practices.

The certification program works on a voluntary basis. Fisheries, processors and distributors that wish to obtain it must pass an accreditation process carried out by independent organizations endorsed by the MSC.

5 international accreditations and 2 under way

With the MSC/ASC, the Llagostera (Girona) company already boasts 3 international quality accreditations endorsing its activities, together with AENOR’s ISO9001 in 2015.

Globalimar has also started procedures to obtain two more accreditations this year, the IFS Broker for food safety and the “Euro-leaf” European ecological certificate.  

Safety, along with quality, consistency in product supply and innovation, is one of the foundational values of the company. Globalimar makes a strict selection of processing plants with international certification by the IFS (International Food Standard) and the BRC (British Retail Consortium), a network of their own agents and additional checks by external certification companies like SGS.

The AENOR ISO 9001 certification, constant control of products in independent laboratories and the analyses carried out at the central Globalimar facilities guarantee maximum product quality.
